Constellation Collection: Celestial Mythology, Our Inspirational Insights

Updated: Dec 1, 2020

Hello everyone, it's Zamara Bennett coming to you from Cosmic Ascent! Our launch went so great and I want to thank everyone for your support while we work behind the scenes to keep up! I thought that now would be a good time to start telling our Earth Stars about our thoughts behind the constellation collection. Like how we created it and what inspires our designs!

The constellation collection reflects on the popular mythologies of the stars — exploring the relationship between humanity and the cosmos. Within that collection are several series of designs inspired by the mythologies of cosmic heroes: Perseus, Andromeda, Hercules, and Pegasus. We utilize gemstones and metals to express the divine virtues portrayed in these stories. As the true nature of our experience as human beings is a dualistic dance between many perspectives, we use our jewelry to project both an expression of our core identities as well as the identity we are always becoming.

Finding Ourselves in the Stars

The human race has always sought answers to our identity and existence in the stars. Long ago, across the world people gazed up at the night sky and saw moving pictures - the stories of the Gods - through these pictures, our ancestors constructed stories which served as molds for our emerging cultures and societies. In our Constellation Collection, we explored myths of the 88 modern constellations and decided on a select few with themes relevant to modern times. While not every myth contains a happy ending, each story portrays lessons we can learn from to create a happy life for ourselves and others.

Perseus Series - Graeae Necklace and Earrings Set

I utilized my knowledge of metaphysical properties of gemstones and crystals to help inspire the direction for the designs as well.

To give an example of this, when I read

and learned about the mythological figure Perseus, I was inspired by one of his encounters with the Graeae, a group of sisters sharing one eye amongst the three of them. I used a combination of druzy agate and amazonite beads to give a sea like coloring to them, looking to the metaphysical properties of amazonite I found a stone that empowers someone standing in their own truth by knowing themselves beyond fear of judgement or confrontation from others. You can read more about amazonite's other properties here.

Constellation Collection, Perseus Series:

The Graeae Earrings and Necklace

I wanted to create a piece that inspired by my interpretation of the mythology, so while the colors I chose are related to the three sisters, the properties of the stones have qualities that embody more of the qualities of Perseus since that's the overarching storyline.
